The mother does get wounded with the comment and looks at her son with a quasi flabbergasted glare. She then closes her eyes and controls the quasi pout. She doesn't say anything yet, though. Licking her wounds internally until Gusai resumes the talk.

Gusai blinks his one eye slowly and breathes.

"Young lord," he says, "it's less about any member of the crew--or the captain--than about making sure the ship reaches port. Always best to arrive with a full complement who're willing to sail again, true, but the important thing is that the ship arrives.

"And, in truth," he adds, "a steady hand is better than a smiling one."

Kinsen looks up in prayer and closes her eyes to drink her tea. Then adds, nonchalantly, “If you manage to please your mother in the process, of course, said bride will be granted a smooth entrance into our household.”
