Inter-Clan Relationships

This early in the Empire, Clan relations are mostly relatively straightforward and based largely on the personal relationships between the siblings and their spouses, the tournament, and the very earliest of enmities and alliances. Relations are on five levels - Allied, Warm, Neutral, Cool, and Enemies. All groupings not mentioned below are considered neutral.

Allies
Imperial Families & Dragon - Shiba defeating Togashi to become the Emperor forged a bond between them not easily shaken despite Togashi's preference for isolation. His wife's warmth and their Clans' shared love of learning has kept the Dragon as one of the Throne's closest proponents.

Imperial Families & Scorpion – Shiba and Bayushi are twins, and Shiba becoming Emperor hasn’t changed that. The two remain close, and the Scorpion remain both physically in terms of territory and relationally close to the throne.

Imperial Families & Monks – The Emperor supports the pursuit of elightenment, and has been active in promoting the monks.

Crane & Stag – Doji and Hantei were close as siblings, and both they and their Clans have made an effort to maintain a close political relationship.


Warm
Imperial Families & Spider – Shiba understands his brother’s goals and generally supports him unless he does something too questionable.

Imperial Families & Bat – Shiba appreciates the wisdom of Ryoshun Nazo and honors his fallen brother.

Bat & Dragon – Their common interests and proximity have resulted in warm relations naturally.

Bat & Spider – The Spider are very interested in the spiritual nature of the Bat Clan, and have made efforts to stay in their good graces.

Crane & Ki-rin – While their Clans have very different values and approaches, their founders are very close as sisters, and it’s reflected in a soft touch with one another politically and warm relations.

Scorpion & Spider – They both trade in secrets, but different kind. The secret trade is a productive one.

Stag & Lion – Besides political efforts, Hantei and Akodo have similar serious mindsets and values.


Neutral
Spider & Stag – Hantei’s aid in Hisomu’s rescue keeps things tensely neutral. A push either way could tip the balance.


Cool
Imperial Families & Crane – Yuzuru and Doji’s rivalry over the shape of the Empire’s etiquette and traditions is becoming quite famous.

Imperial Families & Crab – The Clan still resents the Emperor’s decree that uprooted them after the expedition into the Nezumi Empire.

Crane & Spider – The Spider are too nosy for their own good.

Crane & Scorpion – They’re both politically-oriented Clans, which has quickly blossomed into a political rivalry as they vie for control of the courts.

Dragon & Crane – Togashi’s reasons are inscrutable as ever, but the Dragon have been disengaging with the Crane politically.

Scorpion & Stag – Hantei doesn’t trust his brother or appreciate his methods.


Enemies
Crab & Stag – The Stag, being the holders of the Crab’s former lands (ancestral lands for many of them), are taking the brunt of the resentment that the Crab can’t aim at the Imperials.
