Event Rules
The Actors
The actors play the roles in the play sometimes multiple as they wear masks provided by the Crane to portray their given character. This is an amateur work based on the stylings of Doji artisans and artists, to emphasize the voluntary nature of the Rescue of Hisomu, symbolizing that virtue comes from action.
Finding my Motivation
The actor should get into the headspace of the character or characters they will portray, they can do one of two ways, they can meditate on the matter and focus on the connection of all things in Creation, or they can rely on their knowledge of proper action to guide them in their performance. Meaning they can make a Meditation + Void check at TN 15 or an Etiquette + Awareness check at TN 15 to find their motivation. If they succeed, they can reduce the TN of the next step by 5 and they can call raises on this check as well with each raise granting +1k0 to the roll, but a failed roll with raises reduces the check by -1k0 per raise called.
The Method Matters
Now the actor must act, they can do this in one of three ways; they can rely on the Doji artisan method of traditional theater, they can try this new fangled Scorpion technique of method acting, or they can eschew that and just focus on singing and damn the rest!
Choose one of three methods:
Doji Artisan Method: This a style emphasizing melodrama and extreme emoting and action, it is traditional and the style favored by the Doji players and most familiar to many. This Is an Acting + Awareness check at TN 15 and a success grants 3 Theater Points, each raise called grants an additional Theater Point.
Method Acting: This is a style that was spearheaded by Bayushi Fenixu, and involves relying on sincere and expressive performance by identifying and understanding the experience of the character. They don’t play the role; they are the role. To this end the player may choose Athletics + Awareness, Hunting + Awareness, Weapon Skill + Awareness, or Lore Shadowlands + Awareness at TN 20 and a success grants 3 Theater Points, each raise called grants an additional Theater Point.
I am here to Sing: The actor is here to deliver a powerful singing performance, and they will not be stopped. The player makes a Perform Sing + Awareness check at TN 15 and a success grants 3 Theater Points, each raise called grants an additional Theater Point.
For any of these steps if the roll is failed by 15 or more then 1 Theater Point is deducted from the total. Method Acting is an exception, if the roll is failed by 10 or more they do not reduce the total but get lost in the role, they still get the 1 point but it is highly encouraged that they trigger an emotional disadvantage such as Lost Love or Jealousy.
The Audience
In any live performance the audience is an integral part of the performance, their reactions, observations and even criticism feed the energy of the players and their participation is key to a beautiful performance. In general, the audience can give praise, critical observation, or even realize in the case of this play that the events didn’t happen as portrayed or as they remember.
Audience members get a single roll from one of the three options:
Praise and Participation: The audience member enjoys the events or at least has a positive experience and reflects that in their mood and posture. They can make an Etiquette + Awareness check at TN 15 to provide proper but warm feedback to the players and play, success granting 1 Theater Point. They can lower the TN by 5 if they decide to cheer and be uncouth but that is generally frowned upon by the Crane though other clans may not care. Raises can be made on the roll and each successful raise grants 1 additional Theater point; if the roll is failed by 10 or more then they subtract 1 Theater Point from the total.
Critical Assessment aka Well Actually…: The audience member analyzes the events of the play and provides feedback to their neighbors or anyone that will listen. They can make either a Games Sadane + Awareness check at TN 20 or a Lore Shadowlands + Intelligence check at TN 20 with success granting 2 Theater Points, and each additional raise granting an additional Theater Point again if the roll is failed by 10 or more they subtract 1 Theater Point for being a nuisance.
No Hantei did not Explode, that’s non-canonical!: The audience member was there or maybe read about it and is pretty sure this isn’t how things happened. They can correct others or give their exalted opinion by making a Meditation + Intelligence check at TN 25 to properly recall the events or a Lore History + Intelligence at TN 25 to relate the proper events as laid out by the sages with success on the roll granting 3 Theater Points and each additional raise granting another Theater Point, but if the roll is failed by 5 or more they reduce the Theater Point total by 1. Advantages or Techniques that apply to memory can apply here.
All points are pooled and tallied, and the success of the Play will be determined by the total. If 14 points are accrued then the play is a success, the table with values for more explicit rewards will be forthcoming.

Rewards
- 0 to 13 points: The Play is poorly received and it is not a success and well maybe it's just so bad that it's bad.
- 14 to 25 points: The play is a success and the Mask of each player is mounted in the Camellia House with their names to honor them.
- 26+ points: The play is very successful and so inspired that the Crane build a koi pond and garden, with an outdoor stage, to honor the play and the Camellia House, small monuments to each actor are erected throughout the garden and the garden will be called, Consort's Garden Theater.
