Painting the Roses [Day 1 LA, Scorpion zone]

Kogi takes one last look in the mirror and, delicately, pinches the upper hem of her veil and gives it a twitch, infinitesimally straightening its line across her right cheek.

Her makeup is now ready to the last exacting detail, though she still hasn't assembled her hair ornaments and outer layers of kimono. If she has estimated right, she should have finished putting on her face at just about the time that... ah. Hearing a soft noise in the hallway, she moves to kneel by the paper door and slides it open. "Welcome."

Sasori's cat was scratching at the door and Sasori was behind him. "Oh..." She blinked a few time. "Ah... Hi Kogi san." Sasori smiled. "I hope you are well."

Kogi shrugged. "Not bad. And you?" Sliding the door all the way, she shifts to the side to make way for Sasori. Well, Shino might parade in before its mistress, knowing cats.

The cloth covering her lips flutters a little as she admits. "Today will be something new, for me."

Sasori nodded. "Pretty good. Did you know there are foxes around here?" She tilted her head. "Well, there is always something new on every day. Don't worry, we will be fine."

The thumps of Masato's cane was clearly audible as he limped towards his Scorpion comrades.

"Foxes..." he growered at their mention. "Menacing tricksters, if you ask me." He shakes his head, as if to dispel his negative thoughts of the beasts. "I hope the two of you have rested well. There is much..." he pauses as his gaze lingers on the black cat for a moment. Deciding not to share his thoughts on cats, he simply finishes with, "To do."

The cat hissed at the arrival and Sasori had to let it go. "Shino!" She closed her eyes and took a deep breath to compose herself on the presence of the Miyako. She took her fan out and fanned herself trying to calm the uneasy feeling on her mind. "Miyako sama..." Sasori bowed. "We do... have things... to do..."

"Don't say that about foxes around the Imperial Consort or his household, Miyako-san," Kogi says mildly, swishing the panel door closed behind him. "Please pardon my disarray, Sasori-san, Miyako-san; I'm only half ready for tonight's event, but after all we are all family." In a sense, anyway.

In fact, she is not at all disarrayed--her under-layer of kosode and hakama skirt would be perfectly decent casual wear for a court lady on their own. A wedding definitely calls for more finery, though.

Masato returns the bow, and makes another to Kogi. He had almost forgotten his manners what with all this talk of and presence of beasts.

"I appreciate the advice. I wouldn't want to needlessly cause trouble." His gaze lingers on the black cat for a moment, making sure he knew where it was and that it wasn't up to trouble.

"Half ready?" He regards his own garb for a moment. "Now I don't feel ready at all." Masato was certainly dressed in nice formal wear, but it was lacking the sort of exacting detail and effort that Kogi was putting into her appearance.

"Kogi san, you still have time to get ready. I on the other hand will go get a bath and find a way to quickly put on the many layers of the kimono that I have." Sasori smiled behind her fan. "Do you think there will be representatives of every Kami made Clan?"

"I'll help you tie yours later if you tie mine." Since they had (somewhat) grown up together, Sasori would probably find it easier than most to recognize the arch of Kogi's eyebrows as a smiling expression.

"I think there must be," she answers Sasori's actual question. "How often do weddings of a goddess's daughters happen? And all of the Clan leaders are the bride's aunts and uncles." Kogi shifts toward the room's clothes chest and unlocks it, revealing folded fabric in an indistinct jumble of reds and a few blacks. "We'd better take care to make a good impression."

She glances back over her shoulder at Masato. "You... ah, you do know about the Consort's companion, right?"

"I've heard rumor that a fox leads him around, but not much more than that. I would imagine that it is no ordinary creature, though." He can only offer a shrug with his speculation.

"Well, I guess that while the Kami walk amongst the humans that will be common." Sasori shrugged. "Mother had told me that Doji no Kami is a very beautiful woman." Sasori sighed. "I hope I do well... even though I know none of those mother met back then are here... or remember who she was."

"You have her stories, though," Kogi points out. "About the people who met the Kami then, like Lady Anjing and Lady Saru and Consort Yuzuru. And his seeing-eye foxes," she adds, with a soft giggle that briefly makes her seem younger than her usual twenty-going-on-fifty.

"Advance intelligence," she adds, more soberly. "Did she ever say anything else about any of them? Anything that could help us get on here?"

Of course, Lord Bayushi had been there too, but he wasn't exactly given to telling bedtime stories to his young disciples. And Kogi has a suspicion that, as astute and perfected as the Kami's observational faculties must be... there were very likely some things about the events of twenty years ago that a human witness would have noticed differently.

"Anooo..." sighed. "Mother didn't say much... maybe something about Hida no kami was always surrounded by people. Doji no Kami and Nanzi dono were somewhat inseparable." She gave it some thought. "I kind of found it weird that he went to help rescue Doji no Kami's brother." She shook her head.

"Why is that weird?" Kogi looks up from sorting through silks, the angle of her head conveying curiosity. "They are kin by marriage, and Hisomu-Kami is, well... a Kami."

"Common..." he repeats with some degree of trepidation as his mind tries to grapple with the idea of intelligent and magical animals. Truly terrifying stuff. It occupies his mind for a while. He shakes his head out of the daze to listen in on the history lesson, though, Masato isn't too familiar either, so he listens intently.

"I guess if she petitioned him to help her brothers and her sister. But why leave your beloved partner..." Sasori lowered her head sadden. "I just don't understand."

"Why, for duty, of course. For loyalty." Kogi straightens up and speaks with conviction. "How selfish it would be, for a great warrior to stay and enjoy himself when his kin by marriage was suffering. How could he have had any pleasure from it? And how cold it would be for Lady Doji to keep him there, and not ask him to go..."

Sasori shook her head and closed her eyes. "I guess..." The girl shrugged. "Anyways, should we divide an conquer?"

"What are we conquering, Sasori-san?" Kogi asks, with very subtle merriment that the younger woman might still detect (it might be more difficult for Masato, but still possible. "Do you have a castle in mind for yourself?"

At the same time, she's been arranging several folded robes into a pile, a sort of all-red gradient rainbow. She considers a moment, swaps out one layer in the pile for a different one, and then begins putting all the other extra garments away in the clothes chest.
