Day 4 LM event-Brunch of Ages

[Wu Zhe]

The caress of winter finally reached the lands where the Son of Heaven established His most benevolent rule, covering the horizons with a serene blanket of the purest white snow.

Travel might become near impossible as the snow continues to fall but this has long since been taken as an opportunity for the people of the northern regions of the Dragon. Joining together to share the fruit of their harvests during the warmer seasons, the first snowfall is seen as a time to strengthen the bonds of their community by eating and drinking together.

It is a though the leaders of the dragon delegation knew the precise time the visitors who came to petition the Emperor would be unable to leave the capital, they prepared a not insignificant stock of produce from their homeland, ready to be shared when the time comes.

This is now the time : Let's eat!

There are two ways to participate in this event :

The first one is to come and eat the wide variety of dishes inspired by the culinary traditions of the northern folks and prepared masterfully by Saru Takurou and his aides.

One of the guest's name will be drawn at random towards the end of the brunch and the winner will receive his or her choice of

1) The participant's WEIGHT IN CHEESE
or
2) A small mystery box and its contents

The second one is to cook a dish of your own! This will be difficult however as you will inevitably be compared to Takurou's expert preparation and presentation.

Those who wish to take the second option must either roll an opposed Artisan (cooking) check or a Craft (cooking) check with one raise taken for no effect.

The best dish will be able to pick either

1) The participant's WEIGHT IN CHEESE
or
2) A small mystery box and its contents

And should it be a roll that defeats the master chef, both prizes will be awarded as well as one influence point.

[Togashi Satsuki]

Wearing flowing robes of green, red and white, Satsuki made sure to be there in support of her kin. And she didn't want to miss out on eating her fill of Takurou's amazing cooking.

[Doji Misaki]

Misaki just HAD to give a go at cooking again, especially after the praise Kinsen-sama had given her meager little meal the other day... So she thought of something that made her think of the North and came up with rock crab hotpot with mushrooms, leaks, tofu, and cod roe due to its seasonality.

He had skipped breakfast when he knew of this event. So, he came with a strong appetite. He looked around for a place to sit and eat.

[Saru Takurou]

Takurou stood next to Wu Zhe and greeted the guests who gradually entered the Dining Hall.

When he saw Satsuki, he gave gave her a genuine smile and greeted her.

Takurou examined the dish that Misaki had prepared. It looked very good, and the addition of crab gave it something exotic that was rare in the north. After inspecting his "opponent", he began to cook a little something himself.

Takurou decided to make something to accompany the Hot Pot and made some Momo.

After preparing the Momo, he presented it briefly and placed it next to the hot pot. He took some of the hot pot, tasted some of it. "This is very tasty, Doji -sa, um,... ma? I would be happy if you would try some of the momo" he said first hesitantly, then with a broad smile.

[Doji Misaki]

After preparing the Momo, he presented it briefly and placed it next to the hot pot. He took some of the hot pot, tasted some of it. "This is very tasty, Doji -sa, um,... ma? I would be happy if you would try some of the momo" he said first hesitantly, then with a broad smile.

"Arigatou, Saru-san."

Bowing to the master chef, she accepted his offer gratefully. Picking one up with her chopsticks, she bit in daintily to discover a mix of flavors. It was strongly flavored, but had a nice subtlety along with layers to its textures and profiles.

"Simply delicious. Even a sample like this more than lives up to your reputation, sensei."

In this case she used the honorific not to mean teacher, but to one who has mastered an art or craft.

[Jiyo Sora]

As if Sora would miss a good feed.... for himself, sure, but also for Kinyoubi, who, though heavily pregnant, had agreed to put in an appearance, perhaps goaded by the undignified wheedling of both her husband and all three of her children.

And thus, a small army of Jiyo samurai descended to lay siege to the culinary offerings. Sora and Kinyoubi formed the iron core of the devastating legion, a solid center for the others to rally around, while Phi and Soryu brought up the flanks, with Shirayuki serving as the dreaded outrider.

The delicacies on offer never stood a chance.

Well. Apart from Sora reminding his offspring to leave enough for everyone to try everything.

[Otomo Gusai]

Gusai, similarly, does not pass up the chance for a good meal.

Having traveled widely, he has eaten widely, as well--though Dragon cuisine is outside his experience, and he, being a sailor, has tended towards seafood.

Still, not passing up the opportunity.

[Yoshitsune Chizu]

The tall Crab woman's eyes widened at the dazzling array of foodstuffs, and she circled the room, trying to sample a little from every dish. "Smply mmrvlous," Chizu was heard to say, while attempting to eat a dumpling behind her courtier's fan - a feat of agility which she was only partially successful at.

Ayumu's original plan was to cook some sushi. But when life gives you no fish, you make onigiri instead. Shio-musubi even.

Or, in less fancy terms, modest rice balls with no filling.

[Chai Kotsume]

This had been a really busy morning, and from what she had heard it would be a busy day all in all...

With that in mind, Kotsume essay first unsure whether she should go to this...'brunch' thing. It sounded a bit too fancy, and she knew nothing of northern cuisine. Actually, she knew nothing of 'cuisine' - cleaning fish and other things caught in the river and (often, at least) getting them cooked over fire can hardly be called that.

But she was hungry, and most of the fish catched during the morning would be gifted to be prepared for the Emperor's retinue... So coming around to try some of these things would not be a bad idea.

Keeping the otters in the basket on her back maybe was a bad idea, though - the different smells kept waking their interest just too often...
