[D4 LA] RP Thread: Discourses on Tea and Wine

The event crunch!
There are two essential beverages in the snowbound capital: wine (whether brewed sake or distilled shochu) and tea. Fortunes help Rokugan if either runs out before the snow clears.
For the amusement of the courtiers, several of the resident Scorpion Clan members have organized a grand debate to settle, once and for all, which of these two substances is the true Champion among drinks!
The palace dining hall is stocked with a generous sampling of teas and wines--mostly products of Bayushi's clan lands, supplemented with whatever else the Scorpion could dig up around town. In most respects it looks like a typical drinking party, except that it's also been decorated with two paper "war banners," one for the grand cause of Tea and one for that of Wine. This is to be a war of words, of course...
... but outside the main lines of battle, it's
also a typical drinking party.
As the host of the event, Kogi is remaining impartial in the great battle. She can be seen sometimes with a tea bowl in hand, sometimes with a wine cup--or, even more often, holding a bottle or teapot and making sure someone else's cup is full. She's still wearing the usual veil over the lower part of her face, but she seems quite practiced at slipping a cup of tea or wine behind it. (Of course, come to think of it, one would have to watch pretty closely to tell whether she's really drinking in there.)
She'd been nervous before the gathering started, but once it gets going, playing the host-role absorbs her enough to forget about some of that.

Despite her impassioned speech, Ayano felt frustrated. Then it hit her...a particular rare blend that would have done much to sway the audience. It had been right there at edge of her mind. With a sigh, she moved to take a seat and watch the rest of the debate.

Ah fuck, uncle Shiba is here, Satsuki tried to shrink away with her teacup, knowing fully well she hadn't been as proper and well-spoken as she should have been according to the standards of her more refined family.

But Chu-Baka doesn't live in En-dor...
Oh well, it was not her place to speak against her superiors especially when both had the same goal in mind, so Tsubaki simply shrugged to herself and returned to circulating among the crowd.

“My sister is simply busy with her many duties as wife, heir, and newlywed.”

"Doesn't seem to be slowing your brother-in-law down in the slightest, maybe he should be a better husband and share the burden with your sister instead of letting her do all the work and him doing all the playing or whatever it is he actually does." There was a fire of opinion in the Dragon princess and she didn't let it be silent.

"No," she replied truthfully. "I just don't think it's right that one party should carry all the weight of responsibility on their own. It's not coarsely, just an observation of what's seen. But I'm sure you see things we don't, as they're your family and you spend much time with both of them."
Satsuki shrugged.

"My sister is not burdened any more than I am, her husband executes his role with precision just as she. It is a credit to the clan that it may be perceived as doing nothing at all, when it is anything but. But we speculate on trivial matters. No offense was given or taken between family. Though it does seem an age since we last had a Dragon grace our halls."

Having said his piece, Hikaru resumed his usual quiet watching. Perhaps his eyes were a bit more downcast than usual, perhaps the lines on his forehead and around his eyes a little deeper.
Quietly, he sipped tea.

"Makime-sama, thank you for leading off the charge. Not everyone is brave enough to stand on the front line and risk the foe's first volley." A cheerful Kogi (at least, the limited amount of Kogi that can be seen appears in good spirits) appears at Ayano's side.
